Ligbron Proud of Top Athletes

Ligbron Academy’s top athletes showcased their talent at the Sonop Inter High Athletics Meeting, hosted by Middelburg High School on Saturday, February 15th. The school's athletes secured 38 medals, making their mark in various events.

De Villiers Dippenaar (boys U.14) has made a noticeable debut on the high school athletics scene with the three medals he brought home. He received a gold medal for javelin, silver for discus and bronze for shot put. 



Niyanda Malinga (boys U.17) qualified for the ASA Championships with a time of 11.08 seconds in the 100m, even though he came second in the race. He also received a silver medal in the 200m.



Ian Booysen (men U.19) won two gold medals for javelin and shot put and Ruan van Zyl (boys U.15) followed his example with two gold medals for discus and shot put.



Several other Ligbron athletes showcased their versatility by winning multiple medals.

Siyanda Dennison (Men U.19) claimed gold in the triple jump and silver in the high jump, while Franco Groenewald (Boys U.17) secured gold in discus and silver in shot put. Albert Mitchell (Boys U.17) put in a strong performance, earning bronze in both the 110m hurdles and high jump, while Marjolé Scheepers (Girls U.14) also took bronze in the 90m hurdles and long jump. Young sprinter Berrie Nel (Boys U.14) added to the medal tally with bronze in the 110m hurdles and 200m.

In total the Liggie athletes won 12 gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze medals, bringing the total to 38. The boys team ended in 4th place and the girls in 5th place. Overall Ligbron ended in 5th place.
