The Msukaligwa Local Municipality is reminding residents, businesses, churches, and non-profit organisations about the ongoing Debt Rehabilitation Programme, introduced to assist account holders who are struggling with outstanding municipal debt.

The programme provides an opportunity to reduce qualifying debt through structured payment arrangements and partial debt write-offs, offering much-needed financial relief to those who meet the criteria.

Residential account holders who qualify for the programme can receive up to 50% of their outstanding municipal debt written off, with the remaining balance payable over the amnesty period. Businesses, churches, and non-profit organisations (NPOs) are eligible for a 30% debt write-off, with the remaining amount also payable during the programme period. To make repayment manageable, the municipality offers structured payment arrangements over an 8-month window, running from 1 August 2025 to 31 March 2026.

Eligibility highlights:

  • Account arrears must be older than 90 days as of 30 June 2025.
  • Those who previously benefitted from an amnesty/debt relief programme do not qualify.

Important: If payment arrangements are not honoured, the full outstanding balance becomes payable immediately.

Residents and businesses struggling with rates, water, electricity, or refuse accounts are encouraged to take advantage of this relief initiative.
