The Msukaligwa Local Municipality has issued an urgent notice advising that Eskom has reduced the Notified Maximum Demand (NMD) of the 88kV substation to 14.3 MVA, effective immediately and without prior warning. NMD is the maximum amount of electricity Eskom allows a municipality to draw from the grid.
The substation is now allowed to pull less electricity than before. When demand in Ermelo exceeds this new limit, parts of town will be switched off temporarily to prevent the substation from tripping and causing a wider blackout.
Affected areas include:
• Parts of Ext 14, Netherland Park, Industrial Park
• Parts of Ext 14, De Bruin Park, Ext 18, John Vorster Park, CBD 1
• Parts of John Vorster Park, Wesselton Ext 5, Old Wesselton, CBD 2 and industrial area
• Ermelo Ext 32, 33, 34 and surrounding CBD areas
No schedule is available at this stage. Load reduction will be applied based on real-time demand until further notice.
