Former Ermelo High School learner Mia Davel made South Africa and her hometown proud on Wednesday, 16 July 2025, by winning gold in the U20 high jump final at the African Games Championships in Nigeria. Clearing an impressive 1.70 metres.
Back in 2024, Mia served as President of Sport at Ermelo High School, where she led with dedication both in sports and school activities. She co-captained the EHS team alongside Tyrone Berning to a strong second-place finish at the Interhigh Games hosted at Heidelberg High School—a result that fuelled the school’s sporting culture.

From excelling in the classroom to training after, Mia has long shown a commitment to excellence that now pays off on the international stage.
This is not just a victory for Mia—it’s a celebration for Ermelo High School and the wider Ermelo community. Her journey from the local school grounds to the heights of African athletics is a testament to what hard work and passion can achieve.
The entire community sends its best wishes to Mia Davel as she prepares for her next chapter. The bar is high—but so is her potential.
