The Msukaligwa Municipality’s Fire and Rescue Services has issued an official fire prohibition notice, effective from 16 August to 15 October 2025. The ban applies to all areas within the Msukaligwa Local Municipality (MP302) and is aimed at preventing the outbreak and spread of veld and structural fires during the region’s high-risk dry season.
Under this prohibition, no open fires or burning of any kind will be permitted, unless authorised in writing by the municipal fire chief. This includes the burning of refuse, garden waste, and agricultural fields, as well as any open flame activities conducted outdoors without appropriate containment.
The municipality has issued the directive in response to ongoing dry conditions, which have significantly increased the potential for runaway fires. Residents, landowners, and businesses are therefore strongly urged to exercise extreme caution and comply with the outlined restrictions.
Any person found contravening the notice may face prosecution under the Fire Brigade Services Act 99 of 1987, as well as other applicable laws.
The public is further encouraged to report any incidents of fire immediately by contacting the Msukaligwa Fire and Rescue Services on 017 801 3599 or 072 883 8528.
