Following numerous instances of scam-related crimes, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has once again cautioned the public not to fall victim to fraudulent recruitment schemes.
This comes after reports of individuals receiving phone calls from fraudsters posing as representatives of the SAPS Human Resource Management Recruitment Section. These scammers allegedly solicit money from unsuspecting job seekers in exchange for promised placements within the police service.
SAPS has stressed that no payment is required at any stage of its recruitment process, which is conducted entirely through official and transparent channels. Successful applicants are contacted strictly via official SAPS landline numbers, never through personal cellphones.
“We urge members of the community to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious recruitment-related activities. These scams exploit vulnerable people seeking employment,” said Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi.
The public is urged to report suspected scams or any other criminal activity by contacting Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or by using the MYSAPS App to provide information anonymously. SAPS has assured that all reports will be treated with the strictest confidentiality.
