Motorists in Ermelo are urged to drive with caution at the intersection of President Fouché and De Bruin Streets after a sinkhole formed in the roadway. The area has been cordoned off while municipal teams assess the damage.
According to the Msukaligwa Local Municipality’s Department of Roads and Storm Water, the sinkhole was caused by two factors: recent repairs to a leaking water pipe beneath the road and persistent heavy rains. The water seepage undermined the road’s integrity, ultimately leading to the collapse.
Repairs are currently underway, with the municipality excavating the affected section to determine the extent of the damage before finalising the best course of action. Authorities continue to warn motorists to exercise extra caution when travelling near the site.
