Lightning Strike in Mpumalanga Damages Vehicles and Injures Child

A powerful lightning strike in Mpumalanga caused significant property damage and left one child injured over the weekend. The incident occurred during a severe thunderstorm, shocking visitors and prompting emergency response teams to the scene.

According to Lowvelder, the strike occurred at the popular God’s Window viewpoint near Graskop, where around 15 vehicles were severely damaged. Of these, 10 vehicles reportedly suffered burst tyres, while one caught fire as a result of the intense electrical discharge. A child was injured during the incident and transported to hospital for medical treatment. No information regarding the child’s condition has been released at this time.

Thomas Msiza, spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA), confirmed that the agency is aware of the incident. He stated that officials are gathering further information and assured the public that more details will be released in due course.
