Msukaligwa Local Municipality has announced stricter credit control and debt collection measures as part of its efforts to address rising levels of unpaid municipal accounts.
According to a notice issued on 3 December 2025, a total of 29 defaulting consumer accounts have already been handed over to attorney firms for legal recovery. Summonses have been served to the affected consumers.
The municipality cautions that continued non-payment may result in property attachment, further legal action, and negative impacts on consumers’ credit profiles, including lowered credit scores which may affect future access to financial services.
Residents who have fallen behind on payments are encouraged to settle their accounts voluntarily or make payment arrangements to avoid additional consequences.
