The South African Police Service (SAPS) has issued a warning to the public about a fraudulent notice circulating on social media claiming that members of the public will receive R250 for every undocumented foreign national they report.
According to SAPS, the notice is fake and did not originate from the Department of Home Affairs.
The Department of Home Affairs has confirmed that neither the department nor the Minister of Home Affairs offers monetary rewards to members of the public for reporting undocumented foreign nationals.
Authorities are urging the public to verify information through official government communication channels before sharing it further, warning that the spread of false information can create confusion and undermine public trust.
Residents are encouraged to rely only on official announcements published by the Department of Home Affairs and other verified government platforms for accurate information.
