Three suspects have been arrested following an armed robbery at a supermarket in Kosmos Park, Standerton, on Monday evening, 29 June 2026.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), police responded to a complaint of an armed robbery in progress at approximately 19:00. By the time officers arrived, the suspects had already fled the scene.
Preliminary information indicates that three armed men allegedly entered the supermarket, ordered employees and customers to lie on the floor and robbed the store of approximately R7,000 in cash, cigarettes and groceries. Cellphones belonging to about 15 customers were also allegedly stolen.
Through coordinated efforts between SAPS members and local private security partners, one suspect was apprehended. Police recovered a 9mm Z88 Parabellum pistol with its serial number filed off, eight rounds of live ammunition and three cellphones believed to be linked to the robbery

Further investigations led to the recovery of a second firearm believed to have been used during the robbery and the arrest of a second suspect. A third suspect was later arrested for the alleged unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition after he was reportedly found with a firearm allegedly received from the other suspects.
The three suspects were expected to appear before the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 1 July 2026, facing charges including armed robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Further charges may be added as investigations continue.
Acting Mpumalanga Provincial Commissioner Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi welcomed the collaboration between SAPS and private security, which police said contributed to the arrests and the recovery of firearms and suspected stolen property.
Investigations are ongoing to determine whether the suspects may be linked to other serious crimes in the province.
