Laerskool JJ van der Merwe learners delivered strong performances in cycling, netball and cross-country events held on Saturday, 25 July.
Mountain bikers secure podium finishes
At the TWK mountain biking event hosted by Ligbron Akademie vir Tegnologie, Ewan Terblanche won the Sub-Junior Boys’ 13-year category, while Joshua van der Walt claimed first place in the Nipper Boys’ nine-year division.
Jaclyn van der Walt, Griffin Eksteen and Haleigh Hodgskin each secured second place in their respective categories.
U12 netball team competes at national championships
The school’s U12 netball team competed at the South African Championships, recording six victories, one draw and two defeats.
- Simbruner: Won 24–2
- Paarl Gim: Won 9–8
- Mothle: Won 15–8
- Graslaagte: Won 16–8
- Randhart: Lost 9–12
- Grantham Park: Won 24–4
- Fontainebleau: Drew 10–10, before losing 13–14 in sudden death
- Seodine: Won 15–9
JJ moved to the lower play-offs due to a goal-difference margin of 0.08% and finished 19th out of 46 schools.
