Cabinet has approved extending the validity period of driving licences for Codes A, A1, B and EB from five years to 10 years. The change will apply only to light motor vehicle licences.

Heavy commercial and public transport vehicle licences will remain subject to their existing two- or five-year renewal periods, while Professional Driving Permits will continue to be renewed every two years.

The extended validity period still requires legislative amendments. Motorists must therefore continue renewing expired driving licence cards until the new law officially takes effect.
