Amid ongoing challenges affecting electricity and water supply, Msukaligwa Local Municipality has once again appealed to residents to help safeguard municipal infrastructure by reporting suspicious activity.

Residents are urged to be alert to unknown persons working on electricity cables, vehicles loitering near infrastructure at unusual hours, or people using tools around substations and power boxes after hours. Suspicious activity should be reported to the police immediately.

Executive Mayor M.P. Nkosi said the municipality has recorded further incidents of cable theft, affecting areas including Piekaar, Merino, Chris de Villiers and Nederlandweg streets, as well as parts of Ermelo, Wesselton and residential areas surrounding the Extension 14 substation.

Nkosi reassured residents that municipal water levels are currently at satisfactory levels and that the electricity supply remains generally stable. However, vandalism and cable theft continue to cause disruptions that leave affected communities without electricity.

The municipality has also reported damage to water infrastructure, including damaged pipes near AJ Swanepool and in the Cassim Park area at Littledale, which may affect water supply to surrounding residents.

The municipality has appealed to community members to work with authorities by reporting anyone suspected of damaging or interfering with electricity cables, water pipes or other municipal infrastructure.
