Team Ermelo delivered an outstanding performance at Karate South Africa’s Junior, Cadet, and Children's National Karate Championships, held this past weekend from 07 - 09 March 2025, at the Tongaat Sport Centre in Durban. Proudly representing Mpumalanga on the national stage. Their dedication, skill, and sportsmanship shone brightly as they competed against top talents from across the country.
Individual Achievements:
- Chibuzo was initially drawn against the eventual gold medalist in his first-round match, making his road to the podium even more impressive. In the repechage pool, he faced an intense match that ended in a draw, and after reviewing their fighting techniques, the judges unanimously voted for Chibuzo as the winner, earning him the bronze medal in individual kumite.
- In addition to his sporting success, Chibuzo passed his Provincial Judge B Kumite exam, adding another feather to his cap. This achievement follows his Kata Judge B certificate, which he obtained in Secunda just four weeks ago.
- Chinedu delivered an outstanding performance against Galliano Boni, one of the most decorated karate athletes in the competition. Boni’s remarkable record includes:
- World Grand Champion (3 titles)
- World Champion (13 gold, 8 silver, 7 bronze)
- South African Champion (38 gold, 6 silver, 5 bronze)
- South American Champion (4 gold)
- In an exceptional display of skill and resilience, Chinedu lost by only one point against such a highly accomplished competitor—a truly commendable feat that underscores his talent and potential on the national stage.
- In the repechage pool, Chinedu continued to fight with determination but lost narrowly by one point scored in the last 10 seconds, which cost him a bronze medal, ultimately finishing in 5th place in individual kumite.
