Road users are advised to remain vigilant and expect possible delays.
According to SABC News, the rock slide was caused by heavy rains in the area. Reporter Mthobisi Mkhaliphi said: "Heavy rains often trigger this rapid downward movement of a mass of rock fragments and blocks down a slope."
Barberton is among the areas in the province that have been affected by persistent rains.
The Community Safety, Security and Liaison Department confirmed that only one lane is currently open. Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes where possible and remain vigilant on the road.
