Back-to-Back Glory for Hoërskool Ermelo

Hoërskool Ermelo has once again asserted its dominance on the athletics field after being crowned overall winners of the 2026 Sonop Interhoër Athletics, making it their second consecutive Interhoër victory. The prestigious event took place on 21 February and was hosted by Hoërskool Lydenburg, with eight schools from across the region competing for top honours.

The Erries finished at the top of the final standings with an impressive 1 565 points, followed by Hoërskool Lydenburg (1 358.5 points) and Hoërskool Middelburg (1 326 points). 



Strong individual performances across multiple items contributed significantly to Hoërskool Ermelo’s overall success, with the following athletes recording notable achievements:

  • Aletha Koppers (Girls U/17) – Best Senior Middle-Distance Athlete; 1st place in the 3 000m and 1st place in the 1 500m.

  • Ziané Cilliers (Girls U/16) – Best Senior Girls’ Hurdles; 1st place in the 800m, 1st place in the 400m hurdles, 1st place in the long jump, and 2nd place in the high jump.

  • Lizé du Merwe (Girls U/16) – Best Senior Girls’ Sprinting; 1st place in the 100m, 200m and 400m, as well as 2nd place in the long jump.

  • Margolé Marx (Girls U/15) – Best Junior Sprinter; 1st place in the 100m and 1st place in the 200m.
