South African motorists could face another increase at the pumps in April, with early data pointing to a noticeable rise in petrol prices. Recent fuel price projections indicate that both higher international oil prices and a weaker rand are contributing to upward pressure on local fuel costs.

While fuel prices were initially expected to see only a moderate increase of 60 - 80 cents, based on early-month projections, updated reports now suggest a significantly higher hike. New data indicates that rising international oil prices, a weaker rand, and upcoming tax adjustments are all contributing to a sharp upward revision in expected fuel costs.

According to current estimates, inland petrol prices could rise to around R24.06 per litre for 93 and R24.57 for 95 before tax changes. When factoring in the 21 cents per litre fuel levy increase, prices could climb further to approximately R24.27 and R24.78 per litre respectively. This reflects an increase of roughly R3.80 to over R4.20 per litre compared to current prices. Diesel and illuminating paraffin are also expected to increase notably.

If the increases are confirmed, the impact will be felt across transport and household expenses, placing additional strain on consumers already dealing with rising living costs. Motorists are advised to prepare for possible price adjustments in the coming weeks.
