Residents using prepaid electricity accounts in the Msukaligwa Local Municipality will no longer be subject to the 75%/25% debt recovery and partial block mechanism from 1 July 2026.
According to a public notice issued by the municipality on 11 June 2026, the debt recovery system was temporarily suspended during the implementation of a new financial system to minimise disruptions and ensure a smooth transition. The municipality has now confirmed that the new system has been successfully implemented and restored to full operation.
As a result, the temporary arrangement will come to an end, and the debt recovery and partial block mechanism previously applied to affected prepaid electricity accounts will be fully lifted from 1 July. The municipality said it remains committed to addressing queries relating to affected accounts and will continue processing corrections where necessary.
