Seven suspects arrested over illicit alcohol operation in Mpumalanga

Police have arrested seven undocumented foreign nationals after uncovering an alleged illicit alcohol manufacturing operation at a property in Ogies on Saturday, 27 June.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), officers responded to reports of suspicious activity at a plot in the area. Upon arrival, they allegedly discovered a large quantity of unlabelled alcohol, brewing equipment, chemicals and packaging materials believed to have been used in the illegal production of alcohol.

The estimated value of the seized items and illicit alcohol is still being determined.

The seven suspects were arrested and charged with contravening the Liquor Act. Police said further investigation established that all seven suspects are undocumented foreign nationals, resulting in additional charges under the Immigration Act.

Investigations are continuing, with police now searching for the owner of the property where the operation was allegedly being conducted.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Ogies Magistrate's Court.

SAPS has thanked members of the public for reporting suspicious activities, saying community information remains vital in the fight against crime.
