A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a social media post that allegedly called for a Police Warrant Officer stationed in Ermelo to be attacked and killed.

According to SAPS, the suspect appeared in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 29 June 2026, facing charges of intimidation and assault. The matter was postponed to 3 July for a formal bail application, and he remained in custody.

Police said a case was registered after the alleged post circulated on social media, prompting an investigation. The suspect was subsequently identified and traced by investigators.

During his arrest, the man allegedly resisted and assaulted a police officer before he was eventually taken into custody. The assault charge stems from this alleged incident.

SAPS further confirmed that the suspect is being investigated for possible involvement in another intimidation case linked to a video clip posted on social media, which allegedly called for a police officer to be attacked.
