Two suspects have been arrested after police uncovered dagga valued at an estimated R2 million during an intelligence-driven operation in Nelspruit.
According to a media statement issued by the office of the Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Mpumalanga, the arrests were made on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, by members attached to the White River K9 Unit and the Provincial Detectives Organised Crime Investigation Unit.
The suspects, aged 33 and 26, were found in possession of 16 bales of dagga, with an estimated street value of R2 million. Police also seized a Toyota Hilux single cab bakkie, which is believed to have been used in the commission of the crime. The two suspects are expected to appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of dealing in dagga.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended the officers for their efforts, stating that police will continue targeting drug-related crimes. He added that disrupting the supply chain remains a priority to help protect communities, particularly the youth, from the impact of drugs.
