A cold case investigation into a series of ATM bombings across Mpumalanga has led to the arrest of three suspects linked to cases reported in six areas of the province.
According to the SAPS, the Mpumalanga Cold Case Investigation Team revisited several previously investigated ATM bombing cases, resulting in the identification and arrest of three suspects aged between 20 and 38.
The cases are linked to ATM bombings reported in:
- Leslie
- eMbalenhle
- Bethal
- Witbank
- Vosman
- Phola
The three accused appeared in the Evander Regional Court on Monday, 7 September, where the case was postponed to 29 October.
They face several serious charges, including murder, attempted murder, possession of explosives, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, and endangering or causing loss of life.
Mpumalanga Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise commended the Cold Case Investigation Team for its persistence in pursuing cases that had remained under investigation.
According to Modise, the breakthrough demonstrates the SAPS's commitment to identifying those allegedly involved in serious and organised crime and bringing them before the courts.
The investigation remains ongoing.
